Girls' & women's health education · East Tennessee

Education for every season of a woman's body.

We start with puberty and periods, because that’s where so many questions begin. But bodies don’t stop changing, and nobody hands you a guide for what comes next.

Through workshops, group sessions, and free resources, you’ll find clear, evidence-based health education from a registered nurse and girl mom who will answer the question you actually asked — honestly, and without making it weird.

What we teach

A lifetime of changes. Most of us piece it together from a group chat and a search bar.

Beautiful Beginnings is building education across the whole arc — not one talk at one age. Here's what's ready and what's coming.

Available now

What’s changing and why — for girls, and for the grown-ups who’d rather not wing it.

Pregnancy & Postpartum

Prenatal education and the fourth trimester that somehow still catches everyone by surprise.

In development

School sessions cover the essentials. Community mini‑workshops take a focused look at one topic. Growing with Confidence brings everything together in a deeper two‑hour mother‑daughter experience.

Signature workshop

Growing with Confidence

Two hours set aside for you and her to learn, talk, ask questions, and get prepared — together.

She learns what’s changing, what to expect, what’s normal, and how to handle the practical parts. You’re right there learning alongside her, which makes the conversation much easier to start now than at ten at night, after a question you weren’t ready for.

Two hours means there’s time — for activities, for the questions girls are actually wondering about, for talking to each other, and for building her first‑period kit together before you leave.

She leaves understanding her body a little better. You leave with the words to keep the conversation going. And both of you leave more prepared for what comes next.

Sessions to choose from

The community mini‑workshop menu. Each one takes a single practical subject in enough depth to be useful, without trying to squeeze the whole Growing with Confidence workshop into 45 minutes. Pick one for your group, or ask about something else — this list grows as people tell me what they need.

Girls 9–13 + a grown-up

Puberty 101: What’s Changing and Why

A plain-language look at what’s happening during puberty and why. The physical changes, the emotional ones, and why two girls the same age can be in completely different places and both be right on track.

Girls 9–13 + a grown-up

Periods at School: Be Prepared, Not Panicked

The one girls actually lie awake worrying about. How to build a school kit, what to do about a leak, how to change a product in a school bathroom, who to ask for help, and what the plan is if it starts in the middle of third period.

Grown-ups only · daytime friendly

Puberty Conversations Without Making It Weird

How to start a conversation, what to say when she asks something you weren’t ready for, and why saving it all up for one big Talk is the thing that makes it weird. You’ll leave knowing what to say, not just that you should say something.

What’s Normal? Puberty, Periods & When to Ask for Help

What’s normal, what’s common but worth watching, and what’s worth a call to her doctor. Taught by a nurse — which means straight answers about the things you’ve been quietly googling at eleven at night.

Bring me to your group

I'll come to you. There's no charge.

If you run a library program, a youth group, a school family night, or a troop, I’ll bring a 45-minute session to your families at no cost. You already have the community. I’ll bring the conversation.

If your group would rather host the full two‑hour Growing with Confidence workshop, we can do that as well. This one is a paid event — some groups sponsor it, some have families register directly. We can sort out which of those fits your group best.

About me

Heather Heydasch, BSN, RN

I’m a registered nurse, health educator, and mom of two daughters in East Tennessee.

I grew up knowing very little about what was happening in my own body. Like a lot of women, I learned pieces along the way — from friends, experience, and whatever information happened to find me when I needed it.

When I had daughters, I knew I wanted something different for them.

I wanted them to understand their bodies before something changed, feel comfortable asking questions, and know they could get an honest answer without embarrassment or shame — because who knows what they’d be told by someone else, or what they’d find online.

But it was working with adult women who did not know their own bodies, or how they worked, that made me realize girls in this country have been failed. They are not taught how their bodies work, or even basic anatomy. I don’t want a girl to grow up and live in a body for fifty-some-odd years and not know that urine and babies don’t come out of the same place.

Every girl needs this. Every girl needs to feel empowered to advocate for herself. Every girl needs someone she can trust to give her honest answers. And most of all, she needs it without shame or embarrassment.

That’s why I started Beautiful Beginnings.

My approach is simple: clear information, real words, honest answers, and room to laugh when the topic calls for it. Because bodies are fascinating, sometimes confusing, occasionally ridiculous — and learning about them shouldn’t feel like a lecture.

You can expect evidence-based education, questions to be taken seriously, and a space where nobody has to pretend they already know what they’re doing.

When I’m not working on Beautiful Beginnings, I’m usually running (slowly), reading something, or doing regular family life with my husband and two girls. I share more of that side of life at @girldasch77.
