For schools

Puberty and period education
for your students.

A free 45-minute session taught by a registered nurse, built to fit inside a class period. This page exists so you can see exactly what is covered in the session — and exactly what is not — before anything is scheduled.

Before you decide

A short introduction.

About a minute and a half — who I am, why I built this, and what your students would hear. If you would rather read than watch, all of it is written out below.

Introduction video

Coming shortly. Everything covered in it is written out on this page.

Scope

What the session covers.

And, just as importantly, what it does not. If you need something you can forward to a colleague or a parent, this is the part to send.

Included

The session covers

  • Normal puberty changes — and why two girls the same age can be in completely different places and both be right on track
  • What to expect with a first period
  • Basic menstrual products and how to use them
  • What to do if a period starts during the school day — the kit, a leak, the bathroom, and who to ask for help
Not included

The session does not cover

  • Sexual activity
  • Contraception
  • STI prevention
  • Pregnancy prevention

This is puberty and menstrual health education. Nothing gets dismissed. A question outside this scope is still a good question, and I tell her so. I let her know it is not what we are covering today, and point her to a trusted adult who can help — a parent, the school nurse, or her counselor.

Logistics

How it works.

Length

45 minutes. Built to fit inside a standard class period.

Cost

No cost to the school, and no cost to families.

Who it's for

Girls, upper elementary through middle school. Girls‑only, because girls ask what they actually want to know when the room is all girls — and the questions are where the real learning happens.

I bring

Every material the session needs — handouts, visual aids, and demonstration products.

You provide

A room, and a female staff member present for the session — the same reason the session is girls‑only.

Taught by

Heather Heydasch, BSN, RN — a registered nurse and the founder of Beautiful Beginnings, here in East Tennessee.

Review it first

You should see it before your students do.

The complete session outline

Every block of the 45 minutes, what is discussed in each one, and how long it takes. Nothing held back. I am glad to answer curriculum questions before anything is scheduled.

Other ways I can help.

All free, all in your building. Some schools start with one of these rather than the student session.

For staff

Twenty minutes at a faculty meeting

What to keep on hand, what to say, and how to handle it in a classroom without making it a spectacle in front of everyone else. Your teachers also hear exactly what I would cover with the girls, so they can back it up after I leave.

For parents

A parent preview

An overview of what their daughters will be hearing, for grown‑ups only — so families know what is coming and can keep the conversation going at home.

Get in touch

Start a conversation.

Nothing here commits you to anything. Ask a question, request the outline, or tell me what your families actually need — I read every one of these myself.

I reply within a couple of days. Your information is never shared or sold.
